As from July, teenagers and young people in the city can use a confidential instant chat service to talk about suffering and emotional distress. The new service is staffed by forty people trained in mental health, offering free support around the clock on every day of the year.
The new emotional support chat is available on the phone number 679 333 363, using the WhatsApp instant messaging service, and is particularly aimed at youngsters between the ages of 14 and 25. People in this age bracket are regarded as those most able to use the service and those who may be the most reluctant to receive help in person or by phone.
Besides youngsters being able to talk about psychological distress and suffering, the goal is to provide users towards the most suitable services operating in the city’s network of resources for young people. Examples include Konsulta’m, the programme Aquí T’Escoltem and the mental health network managed by the Government of Catalonia.
The new service has been launched through an agreement with the Fundació Ajuda i Esperança and the Suicide Prevention Helpline, and forms part of the Barcelona Mental Health Plan 2016-2022.
