  • Nearly 60 shops and businesses in nine of the city’s neighbourhoods are taking part in this year’s Christmas window display competition, showing off their creativity and originality.

This year, shopkeepers in the Bon Pastor, Baró de Viver, Trinitat Vella, Torre Baró, Ciutat Meridiana, Besòs-Maresme, La Marina, Roquetes and Trinitat Nova neighbourhoods were invited to take part in the third Christmas shop window display competition held by Barcelona City Council.

The pictures in the photo gallery on this page are from Roquetes and Trinitat Nova. The establishments taking part include chemists, health centres, pet shops, hairdressers, dental care centres, furniture shops and a butchers.

Each one has decorated their window with creativity and originality. In a chemist’s window, wooden boxes were painted white and used as shelving; in a pet shop, there was a Christmas tree with photos showing the names of their customers’ pets (especially dogs, cats, budgies, iguanas and canaries); and one hairdresser created a film-inspired display that recalls Jack Skellington from the Nightmare at Christmas.

Nearly 60 businesses are taking part in a competition designed to liven up and promote commercial activity. A jury made up of representatives from the city council’s Department of Commerce and the Manager’s Office for Economic Policy, district councillors and community planning and resident associations, together with window-dressing experts, will shortly announce their decision. The total cash prize for each winner (a maximum of one business per participating neighbourhood) is €300.
