Film discussion group El poble desnonat

El inquilino (The Tenant) (J. A. Nieves Conde, 1957) is a film that describes the difficulties of accessing housing during post-Civil War period in Spain. We will consider it from the standpoint of the Sindicat de Llogaters, an organisation that seeks to change the situation of abusive prices in the housing rental market. We will discuss the similarities and differences between the past and the present and the increasingly common experience of eviction that many people and families have had to face in cities in Spain and around the world.
 

Joan Miquel Gual is a member of the Memòria en moviment association; a housing activist at La Borda SCCL, a community housing cooperative; a lecturer in film history at the Open University of Catalonia; and the curator of the El poble desnonat film series.

Marc Garcia is a member of the Sindicat de Llogaters.
