As a result of the Oberhausen Manifesto of 1962, Kluge aims to create a film theory school attached to the legendary Ulm School of Design, which has been experimenting with and developing film language following the principles of auteur cinema. Some of the concepts tested out there have endured throughout his career.

The author as producer of the public sphere

Marcelo Expósito and Valentín Roma will speak about the political and artistic career of Alexander Kluge in the context of Germany from the late 1950s to the 1980s, serving as a hinge between the critical theory of the Frankfurt School, the construction of a public framework of public discourse for the new German cinema and the sustainability of an independent and interactive counter-television.
The talk will also cover Kluge’s involvement in various collectivist projects over the last 50 years in Europe.

Alexander Kluge. Biografies, published for the first time in Spanish (Richard Gross) and Catalan (Pilar Estelrich) for the exhibition “Alexander Kluge: Gardens of cooperation”, held at La Virreina Centre de la Imatge.
The book will be presented by Cecilia Dreymüller, an essayist, literary critic and translator.
