End of the project presentation stage in the Participatory Budgets

This edition of the Participatory Budgets attracted 1,739 project proposals in all, with all city neighbourhoods represented and the emphasis being on the improvement of public space, as nearly three out of four projects are of this nature. The proposals will now be checked and their technical feasibility assessed, with the list of feasible projects to be confirmed on 24 January. Of all the projects put forward, up to 250 will get their chance in the final vote by the public, to be conducted on decidim.barcelona from 14 to 21 February. The project presentation stage of Barcelona’s Participatory Budgets 2024-2027 closed out with a total of 1,739 proposals, received between 7 October and 29 November. The last edition of the Participatory Budgets attracted 1,982 projects, but over a period twice as long.

For this second edition, city residents will decide which projects to invest 30 million euros of the municipal budget in. Of all the proposals received, 71.2% are to improve public space, most notably the transformation of streets (32.2%), green spaces (13.7%) and urban furniture (11.9%). The rest are for improvements to municipal facilities (22.6%) and the acquisition and renovation of properties for public use (6.2%).

Proposals have been made in all the city’s 73 neighbourhoods. The three districts with the most proposals are Sant Martí (239), Horta-Guinardó (207) and Sarrià-Sant Gervasi (189).

This stage of the participatory process was conducted on the platform decidim.barcelona and also included 109 discussion sessions in the city as a whole, with 1,500 people attending, along with 58 support offices helping face-to-face with project submissions. Over 10,000 people took part on decidim.barcelona.

Projects will be checked and a technical analysis made between December and January, with the feasible projects to be confirmed on 24 January 2025. A week will then be allowed for any challenges or additional input, with the final response published on 7 February. Of all the projects put forward, 250 will get their chance in the final vote by the public, to be conducted on decidim.barcelona from 14 to 21 February.

The final vote on the projects presented will also be in the hands of members of the public, over 14 years old and officially residing in Barcelona, on decidim.barcelona from 6 to 11 April.
