General curator wanted for the World Congress of Architects
The most important global architecture event, the World Congress of Architects, organised by the International Union of Architects, is to be held in Barcelona in 2026. The rules have now been announced for the competition to find the curator for the event, which will coincide with the city’s time as the World Architecture Capital and offers a great opportunity to strengthen the city’s role as a centre for architectural production and thought and contemporary urban design.
The competition seeks to promote a congress which generates interest among the global community of architects and which reaches some conclusions that provide knowledge and practices with a real impact on people’s daily lives and the future of the planet.
The team can be multidisciplinary, as long as it is headed by an architect, and will be chosen by the administrations behind the event: the MITMA, the Government of Catalonia, the CSCAE, the COAC and Barcelona City Council, along with a committee of experts.
The competition rules have now been published on the website of the Architects’ Association of Catalonia.
New graphic image
A multi-faceted image has been created to reflect the transformational capacity of architecture through action. The image was the winner of the competition organised by the Association of Art directors and Graphic Designers (ADG-FAD), a new part of the congress. The image was designed by the team at Pràctica, based in Barcelona and New York.
Barcelona as the capital of architecture
By hosting the congress in 2026, Barcelona will become the first city in the world to have held the event on two occasions: the first was the 19th World Congress of Architects, held in 1996.
