Of breaking and ripping includes an exhibition and personal presentations of the projects and career paths of four artists

The exhibition, comprising almost 1,000 works, explores the iconographic photography of the city’s urban development across one and a half centuries of history, through the eyes of Jorge Ribalta, artist, critic and independent curator.

La Virreina Image Centre presents filmmaker Albert Serra’s exhibition “Catalonia in Venice. SINGULARITY”, which Chus Martínez curated to represent Catalan art at the Collateral Events at the 56th Venice Biennale.

This exhibit works from throughout his career, including many pieces never seen before in Europe, and reflects the wide range of media he has worked with: music, film, video, painting, sculpture, books and installations.

Ricard Garcia Vilanova (Barcelona, 1971) is the only photojournalist who has been in Syria since the beginning of the war. Through these 40-odd photographs and nine videos, the show at La Virreina Image Centre documents the evolution of a conflict in which the civilian population at no time has been shown any respect or consideration and in which there have been 215,000 casualties, and seven million people are displaced.

A series of pieces that raise different relationships between sound, the moving image, language and the expanded field of contemporary sculpture. The project, curated by the Foundation’s director and curator, Miguel Leal Rios, includes pieces by artists Detanico Lain (Brazil), Francisco Tropa (Portugal), André Romão (Portugal) and Sophie Whettnall (Belgium).

La Virreina Image Centre presents Sophie Calle. Modus vivendi, a wide-ranging retrospective spanning Sophie Calle’s work from the mid-1980s to the present day.

A journey through forty years of images. They were taken by a photographer who has spent his life reporting on events but, almost despite himself, has also seen his work presented at art galleries and exhibition centres around the world. As Socías himself puts it, this photographer just shows us what he finds before his own eyes.

A comprehensive view of the artist's life and work through the display of a variety of artworks and materials, set up to match the scale of La Virreina Image Centre. The themes explored in Ai Weiwei’s work can be approached in many different ways, including multidisciplinarity, nonconformity and dissidence, and the impact of media.

Documentary photography project carried out at 12 civic centres through a programme of theoretical classes, practical sessions and photo outings led by acclaimed international photographers such as Samuel Aranda, Fernando Moleres, Walter Astrada, Moises Saman, Emilio Morenatti, Toni Amengual, Juan Manuel Castro Prieto and Txema Salvans.
