Behind the Scenes

In the years before and after 1910, Barcelona would undergo tremendous changes; new avenues were built through the historic mediaeval centre and the city started to expand into the new residential areas of Eixample. The city’s inhabitants found themselves on the threshold of one the city’s biggest economic boom periods, and with it one of political and urban speculation, coinciding with the First World War. This collection of postcards portray, with great attention to detail, the official touristic point of view of Barcelona that was proud of its architecture and celebrated the triumph of Modernism.
