Sound Pollution Reduction Plan and Noise Map

The European Union established Directive 2002/49/EC, relating to the assessment and management of environmental noise, for the purposes of creating a common Community policy in the fight against noise.

One of the principles endorsed in Spain's Royal Decree 1513/ 2005 is the obligation for all cities with over 250 million residents to make a Strategic Noise Map. The strategic map has to be updated every 5 years and the next update is scheduled to take place in 2016-2017, as the data are to be delivered to the European Union in the autumn of 2017.
