On 28th May 1998 the twinning agreement between Barcelona and Dublin was formalised.

With this agreement the two cities agreed to promote exchange and cooperation in issues of economic development, science and technology, culture and tourism, involving the respective civil societies.  The areas in which there has been more collaboration in recent years, has been economic promotion, information technologies and e-government.

So as to facilitate and foster exchanges in fields such as the economy, electronic administration and information systems, culture and tourism, two addendums of this twinning agreement have been signed.
