PUULUUP

Folk – Estonia

PUULUUP have recovered an instrument from the middle ages, accompanied with loops and effects that bring the sound to the present day and offer a highly theatrical set. The group are bossing it at stages around the world and even represented their country at this year’s Eurovision.

The talharpa is a traditional lyre, popular in northern Europe and played on the islands of western Estonia until the early 20th century. Using this unusual instrument, combined with lyrics in different languages, the group have managed to create their own highly original language.

PUULUUP are Marko Veisson (talharpa, electronics and vocals) and Ramo Teder (talharpa, electronics and vocals). They have received various national awards for their music, including recognition in the Estonian Music Awards and from the Estonian Traditional Music Centre in 2019. Their popularity in their own country and beyond is growing quickly thanks to their fun live shows.

Recommended for audiences of all ages.
