Decidim Fest 23: Democracy, technology and collective intelligence

21/06/2023 - 20:42

Decidim Fest returns to the Canòdrom, on October 18, 19 and 20 and, for this edition, claiming the place that collective intelligence deserves. Artificial intelligence has undoubtedly emerged as the absolute digital issue over the last year. It has been so at multiple levels, both to embellish some of the leading technologies with rapid extension and social adoption, and to open debates about its risks, limits, regulation and potential impacts on our societies.

In this context, and already with the ability to glimpse numerous possibilities of these technologies from a democratic perspective, important questions or doubts arise: why is it called artificial when it is nourished by sources of common and open knowledge, generated collectively? Who leads and under what mandate its global development? What are the regulatory urgencies to defend fundamental and democratic rights? How can we imagine models of democratic AI development and at the service of society as a whole?

Specifically, and located in the Decidim project, we want to address many of these questions: how AI systems can be deployed in Decidim, from free software, from democratic governance and from the social contract, to continue to pave the way for the development of transparent, open technologies at the service of the common good. This edition of Decidim Fest is a new meeting of the global community to share paths, strengthen the collective project and try to answer some questions. Decidim is already a global reference of free and democratic technology in a growing ecosystem of FLOSS projects that are opening new paths of hope for a more democratic digital era.

If you want to participate, the call for workshops, presentations and developments around Decidim is now open. It will be the Metadecidim community itself who will choose between 8 to 10 activities that revolve around developments and hacking, research, design and participatory methodologies, data analysis and AI and democracy.
