The cultural and sports group of the Barcelona Fire Service organises this non-competitive swim every year, where participants can choose to swim one, two or three nautical miles.
The seventh edition of the Solidarity Nautical Mile is being held at the Bogatell beach (next to the Nautical Base) on Sunday, 9 July, at 10 am.
Swimmers will have two hours to complete the distance they choose (there are four starts):
- Nautical half mile: 926 metres
- Nautical mile: 1,852 metres
- Two nautical miles: 3,704 metres
- Three nautical miles: 5,556 metres
Participants must sign up in advance using this form. Registration costs 15 euros, with all the funds going to the NGO Mirada Neta. The deadline for registration is 4 July, or when the maximum number of 800 participants have signed up.
The swim is open to anybody aged over 14 and in good physical shape. In the case of minors, parental permission is required.
Swimmers will not be allowed to use any support materials such as flippers and swimming gloves, and the use of neoprene is optional. The rules for taking part are available here.
As this is a non-competitive event there are no prizes for finishing positions, but once the swim is over there’s a prize draw for materials and experiences from the event sponsors.
