The ceremony began with a wreath laid at the monument outside the Espai Bombers, paying homage to city firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty. It forms part of the celebrations to mark the day of the corps’ patron saint, Sant Joan de Déu, which falls on 8 March.
After the ceremony, various diplomas were awarded in the exhibition hall:
- To the firefighters Joan Esquirol and Raúl Fernández for rescuing a person with mental health problems armed with a knife and threatening to jump from a balcony. Their firm action avoided the person falling.
- To Carlos Azagra, in recognition and gratitude for his work on the lithographic print for the Barcelona Fire Service for 2022.
- To the Museu d’Història de Barcelona (MUHBA) for its collaboration on the exhibition “Protecting Barcelona. Firefighters and fire prevention 1833-2022”.
- To Sergi Martínez, coordinator for the Prevention Centre for Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB), and to Joan Capdevila, head of the Natural Environment Service at the Collserola Natural Park, for his collaboration with developing permanent training in 2022 and his willingness to work with the Barcelona Fire Service on operational and teaching matters.
- To the companies Trass Tractament d’Espais, Konecta and Rosenbauer Española for their sponsorship of this year’s llithographic work for the Barcelona Fire Service.
Finally, the latest lithographic print in the collection for the Barcelona Fire Service, created by Caros Azagra, was given to the manager of the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA), Eduard Vicente.
