Volunteers from the Barcelona Fire Service will be giving blood at various places in the city between today and Friday. The campaign is open to anybody wishing to give blood.
People can give blood at these hospitals:
- Hospital de Sant Pau, from 9 am to 8 pm
- Hospital de la Vall d’Hebron, from 8.30 am to 8 pm
- Hospital Clínic, from 8.30 am to 9 pm
There will also be a space at the Espai Bombers where people can give blood on Friday, 19 May, from 10 am to 2 pm and from 4 pm to 8 pm. The Espai Bombers is the permanent exhibition space for the Barcelona Fire Service, housed in the former Poble-sec fire station.
Those wishing to give blood should book a time slot here.
It’s important to know that platelets, one of the elements extracted from each blood donation, deteriorate after five days, and red blood cells after 42 days. Because of this, blood donations are needed all year round.
Who can give blood?
- People between 18 and 70 who weigh more than 50 kilos
- Even if they suffered hepatitis before they were 12
- Even if they have not fasted
- Even if they have high cholesterol
- Even if they take common types of medication
Women can give blood up to three times a year and men up to four. A period of at least two months must pass between donations.
The campaign is an initiative by Bombers Solidaris de Barcelona, the solidarity group from the Catalan Fire Service Bombers amb Cor and the Blood and Tissue Bank.
