A Barcelona Fire Brigade team gave its official approval today for the smooth running of the emergencies and self-protection plan for Gràcia’s Festa Major [big annual festival], which starts on Tuesday, 15 August and ends on Monday 21 August.
As in previous years, Barcelona’s Fire Brigade teams from Eixample and Vall d’Hebron fire stations have been visiting several of Gràcia’s decorated streets, to carry out a general inspection and provide advice on fire prevention. The features they have been examining are as follows:
- the streets’ access points,
- accessibility in the streets in case a vehicle or turntable ladder has to enter them to deal with an emergency,
- the combustibility of the streets’ decorations,
- the flow rate and pressure of the water of the various fire hydrants
- and other factors that may determine the brigade’s intervention.
The inspections started in Carrer de Verdi, at the point where a plaque is to be put up the coming week in recognition of the street’s hundred-year history of festivities.
In addition to these inspections, which will be joined by others during the days leading up to the festa major [big annual festival], a special preventive unit of fire fighters will be deployed during the matinades de foc [morning fire runs] and music procession, on 15 August, and for the adult and children evening fire runs.
