The exhibition, which is on at MUHBA’s Oliva Artés Space until 14 January, will be offering a fortnightly activity in October, November and December.
A fire engine and demonstrations
In fact, the first of these activities is intended for young children and takes place on Saturday morning, 14 October: Prevenim, featuring a fire engine for understanding how to prevent domestic accidents through practical recommendations and instructions on how to deal with them should they occur.
The activity will be repeated on Saturday, 11 November and Saturday, 9 December. In each case it will start at 10 am and finish at 1 pm, held at the junction between Avinguda Diagonal and Carrer Espronceda, nearby the museum in Parc Central del Poblenou.
Prevenim will alternate with several demonstrations of tasks usually carried out by members of the Fire Brigade, with the first taking place at the end of this month:
- 28 October: demonstration of a vehicle extrication
- 25 November: demonstration of a chemical-risk intervention
- 23 December: demonstration of an urban height rescue
All three demonstrations will be held at 12 noon, opposite the museum.
Both activities can be accessed without any need for prior registration.
Audiovisuals, photos and fire station model
Prevenim and the demonstrations will accompany and complement “Protecting Barcelona”, a production that explains how fire-prevention measures in the city have been applied, from the creation of the Barcelona Fire Brigade in 1833 to the present day, in addition to the history of the brigade. To illustrate all that, it is holding an important exhibition of historical vehicles, photos, showcases with communication devices and warnings, audiovisuals of big fires and a model of the Llevant fire station.
The exhibition highlights the key role of prevention, which is as important as fire-extinguishing or rescuing. The creation of a professional and properly equipped fire brigade made Barcelona a safer city, as did the establishment of basic fire safety regulations and an inspection system to enforce them. In addition, priority has started to be given for training and information initiatives intended for city residents.
