Organised by the Barcelona Fire Service, the meeting is intended to guide project specialists, municipal specialists and installation companies on compliance with the Technical Building Code for protected buildings where heritage elements must be preserved.
The Barcelona Fire Service is organising the technical meeting “Fire prevention in the renovation of listed buildings”, mainly aimed at project specialists, municipal specialists and installation companies. The meeting will analyse the basic difficulties in renovating listed buildings according to the requisites of the Technical Building Code (CTE) and look at possible solutions which are compatible with the code.
The CTE, through the Basic Fire Safety Document (DBSI) and the Basic Safety in Use and Accessibility Document (DBSUA), sets out the minimum conditions which buildings must satisfy to guarantee safety in the case of a fire.
These conditions affect fire protection installations, the resistance to fire of building structures, their safety and accessibility, the intervention of firefighters if needed, the spread of fire inside and outside buildings and the evacuation of people in the building should fire break out.
The conditions are easy to build into the design and construction of a new building but can be difficult to achieve in an existing building, particularly where heritage elements must be partially or wholly preserved (structural elements, open staircases, windows etc.).
The meeting is on Wednesday, 19 April, from 9 am to 5.30 pm. Participants can attend in person at the Espai Bombers (C/ Lleida, 30) or via streaming.
