Mixtur 2018
A music research and interdisciplinary creation festival that runs from 19 to 29 April
The seventh edition of Mixtur comes loaded with proposals. Fabra i Coats – Art Factory is the main stage, which, alongside other spaces, will make Barcelona an international meeting point devoted to the latest aesthetics in the field of music and sound art. This year’s edition will mainly focus on training with the Pedagogic Workshops, which will bring us internationally renowned contemporary composers like Rebeca Saunders, Tristan Murail, Alexanders Schubert and Carola Bauckholt. The festival will also make room for figures like Gabriel Brnčić who have defined the evolution of contemporary music in Catalonia. Alongside the workshops, and sticking with training theme, several pedagogic projects and sessions will be delivered that are open to the public. They will take the form of talks, masterclasses and round tables with artists, like percussionist Núria Andorrà, who has worked with primary schools and high schools.
Mixtur 2018 will also host big international performers like 2e2m, Ricardo Descalzo and Fred Frith, alongside fresh new bands from the current scene like Duo Hellqvist/Amaral, Zafraan Ensemble, Frames Percussion and Luis Tabuenca, among others. Moreover, the seven new works for 2018 that Mixtur has commissioned from Spanish composers like Adolfo Núñez, Alberto Bernal and Josep Maria Guix, and international composers like e-cor ensemble, Julien Malaussena and João Pedro Oliveira will also be premiered.
This year, Mixtur received the Ciutat de Barcelona award in the category of Music “for contributing to the emergence of new generations of musical creators, for their comprehensive, pedagogic and transformative vocation, and for contributing to the expansion of the circuits for the production and dissemination of music”. The festival, which started in 2012, has now secured its place as one of the most important activities in Spain for this sector, and enjoys wide recognition across Europe.
Mixtur 2018 will take place from 19 to 29 April in several spaces in the city, including Fabra i Coats – Art Factory, Institut Français and L'Auditori.
