Cabaret Camins Emergents within the “De Mar a Mar” European project

1 January, 2018 - 09:00 to 16 February, 2018 - 23:59

La Central del Circ, as a participant in the De Mar a Mar – Pyrenean Circus project, is sharing this announcement which consists of the opportunity to disseminate between 5 and 7 circus pieces that will be integrated into a cabaret; it will also include a 5-day residency at Huesca with artistic director Marie-Céline Daubagna.

De Mar a Mar aims to encourage the creation and dissemination of contemporary circus across the areas bordering the Pyrenees through actions that are intended to provide guidance, training and support to circus artists by creating solidarity relationships within the sector: creation and training centres, consolidated artistic teams and producers.

Artistic discipline

Circus

Who it is aimed at

This announcement is aimed at professionals from various forms of “creative” circus expression who live or practise in the French-Spanish Pyrenees border areas: Álava, Aragón, Bizkaia, Catalunya, Navarra, Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Occitania.

Application date

Until 16 February 2018.

Location

Various locations. See Calendar.

Characteristics of the announcement

The Camins Emergents device pursues the following goals:

  • To enable artists to confront various situations related to the territory and dissemination spaces
  • To encourage the audience to confront the works during the creation process
  • To enable improved adaptation of artistic productions in several dissemination mediums
  • To organise gatherings between artists and professionals from the sector
  • To favour local dissemination within the bordering territory

The 2018 Camins Emergents announcement is part of the “market launch” action for the De Mar a Mar project, and aims to provide artists with time for dissemination and audience confrontation to facilitate the honing of newly created productions and prepare them for dissemination through national and international networks. The device also seeks to educate producers from the border regions about the importance of providing support to young artists and taking more artistic risks.

This device consists of the dissemination of 5 to 7 circus pieces that will be integrated into a (combined) cabaret performed in two versions: one in a venue and one in the public space (with the possibility of a touring version).

Each piece will have a maximum of 3 artists on stage and a total of 8 artists for the cabaret.

Artistic director Marie-Céline Daubagna has been selected by the integrated partners and will be responsible for putting together the numbers and the cabaret’s mise-en-scène during the 5-day residency in Huesca (Aragón, Spain).

The device guarantees the dissemination of the cabaret within the framework of the actions mentioned above at the corresponding point in the timeline (subject to confirmation from the producers). A production office will be put in charge of producing the cabaret for the dissemination dates (contracts, logistics, etc.).

Producers who do not belong to the project’s group of partners will also be able to schedule the cabaret outside the dates mentioned above, depending on the availability of the artists.

Terms

The remuneration allocated to each artist for each show is €300, non-recoverable VAT included (total payroll).

The device is not responsible for the presence of a technician or a promoter from the company.

Travel costs with private car are determined based on the following calculations: €0.30 VAT/km + tolls (non-recoverable VAT included). Subject to adjustment depending on the types of material, car and passengers. Car sharing is advised during the tour for economic and environmental reasons.

During the tour and the residency period, costs for accommodation and catering will be borne by the organiser or will be subject to a daily allocation.

Assessment criteria

The selection committee will pay special attention to the artistic quality of the proposals and to their prospects for development.

As an exception, due to the existing territorial unbalance and with the aim of dynamising the sector in the less developed areas of the border area, 4 artists from Aragón and 4 from the remaining regions and POCTEFA territories will be selected for this opportunity.

In order to apply for this opportunity, artists must:

  • Have a recent short piece (between 5 and 30 minutes maximum) that has not been widely disseminated, is technically light, associated with a broader creation process and features a maximum of 1 to 3 artists on stage. This creation must be suitable for representation both in a public space and a venue, and also integrate into the “cabaret” composed of 5 to 7 pieces.
  • Be able to adapt to the technical characteristics of a variety of dissemination spaces (small venues, open air, squares, on grass, etc.). The pieces that will make up the cabaret should be short and technically light. The technician selected and hired by De Mar a Mar to support the creation and dissemination of the cabaret will be the only person to receive financial remuneration for this task.
  • Be available on the dates specified in the calendar.
  • Be available between April and December of 2018 for the dates proposed by the Camins Emergents device.
  • Artists participating in Camins Emergents must maintain an active dissemination process.

Selection

The selection committee is made up of partners from the De Mar a Mar project and the director of the cabaret, Marie-Céline Daubagna.
