Tribute to the Arthur Cravan Tribute II
Friday 3 d'octubre, October, 7 pm
Virreina Patio. Free entry, limited places.
We assume it would be impossible (and certainly undesirable) to try to reproduce the intensity and legendary aura of the original Arthur Cravan tribute sessions of 1992 at La Virreina, convened and conducted by Carles Hac Mor and Ester Xargay. Given their well-known aversion to conventional tributes, they would undoubtedly have preferred that we dedicate a “Tribute to the Arthur Cravan Tribute” rather than to themselves. With the boxing ring set up once again in the courtyard, we offer an intensive, wide-reaching session of creators with work based on action, music and poetry that will simultaneously showcase different generations, approaches and ties to Carles Hac Mor and Ester Xargay through the artists Pia Sommer, Enric Casasses, Barbara Held, Pere Noguera, Maria Sevilla, Albert Vidal, Roger Peláez and Llapispanc.
In this overview, we will be bringing back two members of the original 1992 session, Pere Noguera and Enric Casasses. Classic and/or expanded poetry will be represented by Enric Casasses, Pia Sommer and Maria Sevilla. We will feature artists who were long-time collaborators of Carles Hac Mor and Ester Xargay, such as Barbara Held and Pere Noguera, and regular contributors to poetry gatherings and Barcelona’s underground scene from the 1980s onward, such as Enric Casasses. We will feature new generations of action artists from a broad perspective, including Pia Sommer, Roger Peláez and Llapispanc, embracing the diverse transformations that the practice and concept of action have undergone up to the present day. We will also enjoy the special participation of two artists with very long careers, indisputable giants in very different fields and generational peers of Carles Hac Mor, with whom he maintained a relationship of mutual inspiration and a very special bond: Albert Vidal and Pere Noguera.
