Mercat de Les Corts

Història dels mercats
  1. Home

Located at number 215 of the Travessera de Les Corts, it was built in 1961 where there was an area of fields. It has the typical structure of the markets that were built around the sixties with a characteristic roof formed by several arches.

Fifteen years after the first refurbishment of the market, in 1993, it became necessary to adapt it to new demands and new commercial uses, and therefore in 2007 a complete refurbishment was carried out.

Architecture

The G56 project opted for a more modern and attractive image of the market, typical of new commercial establishments. The façade of Carrer de les Corts was radically transformed by the creation of large glass openings and a new main access, weaving a new link with the urban environment.

The building has a polycarbonate exterior envelope of various colours that filters natural light and encircles its main volume; it is a continuous skin of translucent panels that hint at the original structure of the market.

Furthermore, the façade of Travessera de les Corts has a dark thermal glass skin and a specifically designed vinyl composition. Likewise, a flat-level entrance and an interior ramp cancel out pre-existing architectural barriers and facilitate access to the market.

In relation to the commercial area of the market, with the refurbishment the "commercial mix" was rationalised, the supermarket was enlarged and, at the same time, the new bakery was integrated into the general project. This space has a tasting area with exterior views, making it a more attractive establishment than the previous one. In addition, a new flat-floor access lobby was built for the exclusive use of the bakery and the supermarket.

G56 has also renewed all interior finishes following the corporate line of new markets. They also adapt the composition of signs, equipment and materials of the stalls, unifying the interior landscape.

The action also renewed the general facilities of the market: the electrical installation and lighting, air conditioning and ventilation, the installation against fires, sanitation and special (public address, security) and the distribution system of the sanitary water.
