Inaugurated in 1960, the Mercat de Nostra Senyora de Montserrat was built in order to supply the new neighbourhoods that grew up during this period in the outskirts of the city, as is the case of Roquetes in the Nou Barris district, where it  is located.

Architecture

The construction of the market was designed by the architects Anglada, Gelabert and Ribes, and executed by the builder, Construciones Benito Solans SA "COBEGOSA", a company that specialized in the construction of markets between the 1950s and late 1970s.

Its structure corresponds to the model of the markets of the time, of rectangular floor and with establishments and wide passageways.

The market has a commercial area distributed on three levels: at the bottom, there is the courtyard area, which was originally discovered in its central part and is attached to the main nave of the market by stairs and a ramp. The sales floor consists of fresh and non-food establishments and the first floor, with access via Camí Vell de la Pedrera street, has a sales floor with fresh produce establishments. Outside there are non-food establishments and a car park and loading and unloading area.
