Refurbishment of the Mercat de Sarrià

Història dels mercats
  1. Home

Its refurbishment was carried out in just over a year. Like the Poblenou market, it was carried out without the construction of a temporary market and the work was carried out by sectors. The project was signed by the architect Àgata Vila.

The refurbishment project was an initiative of the IMMB in agreement with the traders and the works, which began at the end of May 2006 and were completed in September 2007, were carried out by the company G56, the same that was responsible for the comprehensive reform of the Poblenou market.

Technical details

  • Rehabilitation of the façade, roof (which has been equipped with thermal insulation) and paving.
  • Construction of new storerooms, cold rooms and a new car park.
  • Adaptation of access for people with reduced mobility and construction of a new entrance hall.
  • Newly built shops and total refurbishment of the supermarket.
  • Renovation of the electrical, lighting and heating and cooling systems.
  • New services for recycling and reuse of rubbish

Results

The facility has new services and infrastructure, new shops that have workshops and tasting areas and a renewed Superestalvi Supermarket, so that residents can do one-stop shopping.

A notable element is the disappearance of the awkward stairs at the entrance to Passeig Reina Elisenda, which has been transformed into a modern lobby equipped with an elevator.
