Barcelona is a founding member of Eurocities, along with Birmingham, Frankfurt, Lyon, Milan and Rotterdam.

Barcelona is to hold the meeting by the Eurocities network from 18 to 20 May 2020. Over 200 European cities make up the network, with nearly 130 million inhabitants between them.

The Eurocities network includes more than 200 cities in 38 countries, with a combined population of some 130 million people. The goal of the network is to share ideas and experiences and come up with innovative responses to common realities and problems.

Next year’s meeting offers a chance for discussion and for sharing experiences of how guaranteed income policies are useful in fighting poverty or how to reorganise care work from a local and feminist perspective. The event will also look at municipal policies that combat discrimination, foster labour inclusion and tackle the housing emergency, as well as programmes to tackle the digital divide, particularly in a context shaped by the Covid-19 pandemic and the social crisis it has generated.

Specifically, February brought the presentation of the Government Measure on Social Innovation, a series of steps involving an investment of 13.5 million euros over three years to maximise the quality of municipal support and make it more familiar and efficient.
