Enforcement measures to increase safety for motorbikes and mopeds
Riders of mopeds and motorbikes are the group most at risk of having a traffic accident on the city’s roads, with an accident rate four times higher than the figure for cars.
Because of this, the City Police are starting a special week-long enforcement campaign today with the goal of cutting accident rates among mopeds and motorbikes and the number of victims. The campaign also seeks to ensure that people comply with the regulations on the circulation of these types of vehicles.
Officers will be paying attention to reckless conduct that can generate risks, in particular the following:
- Correct use of helmets by riders and passengers alike.
- Distractions such as using mobiles.
- Improper turns.
- Not respecting traffic signs.
- Inappropriate overtaking.
- Infringements linked to documentation for vehicles and riders.
The City Police are working towards the goal of halving the number of deaths and severe injuries, as set out in the Road Safety Strategy 2030, with a view to achieving zero fatalities by 2050.
