The Area of Security, Prevention and Coexistence leads the city of Barcelona's public security and prevention policies. It is made up of three large areas of action: the Guàrdia Urbana [city] police force, the Fire Brigade and the Prevention Services Department.

The ranks of the corps should grow to 3,500 officers in all in the summer of 2025. Nearly half the police fleet has been renewed and 23.7 million euros is being invested in facilities between 2023 and 2027.
