Mediation services

Telematic neighbourhood mediation service

This service was created in 2021 with the main goal of improving relations and peaceful coexistence between the residents of Barcelona

It provides the city's residents with an alternative dispute resolution system that can be used by telephone or online to address disputes between neighbours. It also provides practical and emotional support and advice.

Mediation

The service, which has been in operation since 2007, provides a meeting place to establish or restore dialogue between the parties to a dispute in which a mediator fosters dialogue in order to reach a mutually satisfactory agreement in accordance with the current legislation so that peaceful coexistence can be restored.

Mediation is governed by the principles of respect for the other party, the mediator's impartiality and neutrality, the confidentiality and good faith of the parties and willingness and freedom in regard to taking part in the mediation process.

Mediation in tourist flats

The service, which has been in operation since 2018, provides support for the resolution of coexistence disputes between local residents and the owners or managers of tourist flats (HUTs) arising from the fact that the tourist flats are located in the same blocks of flats as the residents' homes or in adjacent properties.

The service aims to establish communication bridges between all the parties involved in the dispute in order to deal with it directly and prevent future incidents. Dialogue is thus used to avoid getting the police involved or resorting to court or administrative proceedings.

Mediation in night-time leisure

This service was created in 2022 for the prevention, intervention and alternative management of conflicts at night and in the early hours in night-life areas and activities in public spaces.

The aim is to ensure that night-life does not interfere with local residents' rest and to improve peaceful coexistence between the owners and workers of night-life venues, their customers and local residents in order to help find solutions to the problems and conflicts that arise.

How to request mediation services

This type of service must be requested at the Citizen Help and Information Office, which can be found in the district office of the requesting party's district of residence, so that the district's prevention specialist can be contacted.

It can also be requested via a municipal application form.
