More human and material resources for the City Police

The municipal police force has taken on over 200 officers since last September and its ranks are due to swell to 3,500 officers in the summer of 2025. On top of the extra officers, nearly the entire fleet of vehicles has been renewed and police facilities are being improved, with an investment of 23.7 million euros between 2023 and 2027.

An additional 132 officers joined the City Police corps in September 2023, with a further 104 new officers joining this year from the Institute for Public Security of Catalonia (ISPC).

The addition of the new officers coincides with the arrival of a new intake of training recruits at the ISPC, who will have the opportunity to fill one of the 128 places to be consolidated in the summer of 2025. With these new additions, the ranks of the City Police will swell to a record figure, with just over 3,500 officers.

Renovation of equipment and facilities

Various investments were made in the buildings and facilities of all territorial units during the course of 2023, at a cost of around a million euros. The Municipal Investment Plan (PIM) for the next four years envisages spending of 22.7 million euros. Notable projects include the construction of a new headquarters for the Sarrià – Sant Gervasi Territorial Unit, entailing an investment of around 20 million euros.

As for the fleet of vehicles, this has been renewed in recent months, particularly patrol vehicles. A total of 184 vehicles, 30 electric mopeds and 12 vans were included in this renewal process, and of the 646 motorised vehicles that belong to the corps, nearly half are electric or non-plug-in hybrid vehicles.

As for equipment, in September the corps will procure 22 Taser units and get training in their use.
