Programme for the first day
The first session of the Sail in Tour, on 24 May, features screenings of two notable documentaries:
- “Philosopher of the sea”: This documentary tells the extraordinary story of the Swedish sailor Sven Yrvind and his solo voyage of nearly 15,000 miles from Ireland to New Zealand. The film invites us to reflect on life and the quest for adventure.
- ” Sir Robin Knox-Johnston: Sailing Legend”: A look at the trajectory of the British sailor Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, who made history with his solo voyage around the world without making any stops. The documentary explores the challenges and triumphs of this epic feat.
An exceptional guest: Sir Robin Knox-Johnston
The first session of the Sail in Tour features the legendary sailor Sir Robin Knox-Johnston as a special guest. Sir Robin became the first person to sail solo around the world without making any stops in 1969, a feat which earned him a knighthood and turned him into an iconic figure in the world of sailing. After the screening of the documentary about his life, Knox-Johnston will be taking part in a discussion about his experiences, with anecdotes and reflections about his voyage.
Promoting nautical culture
Promoted by Barcelona City Council, Barcelona Provincial Council and the Fundació Barcelona Capital Nàutica, the event unites all the administrations coordinating the legacy of the America’s Cup. The aim of the festival is to promote the values of nautical sport and maritime culture among local and international audiences. The programme includes a selection of the best documentaries from the Sail In Festival and other recent and previously unpublished works.
The Sail In Tour started life in 2014 as an extension to the Sail In Festival, the goal being to bring the spirit and values of sailing to a broader audience. The festival is recognised globally as the best in sailing culture by the media in this sector, which highlight its respect for the sea, equality, the spirit of self-improvement, adventure and teamwork.
