Barcelona racionalista

El GATCPAC i les avantguardes dels anys 1930

Author/s
Mercè Vidal (Text) and Lluís Casals (Photography)

This book is an in-depth essay about rationalist architecture and GATCPAC, a group of young Catalan architects and designers that joined forces at the end of the 1920s out of the need to renovate aesthetic and philosophical proposals of art. They worked in harmony with international avant-garde names, especially Le Corbusier, and with ground-breaking artists of the time, such as Picasso, Miró and Dalí. It also highlights the profound relationship that GATCPAC developed with the republican and pro-Catalan movements in the 1930s, and its social project to improve the lives of the working classes in areas such as housing, education and health.
