Ve de Barcelona
A new shop for books, culture, design, gastronomy and fashion at the Mercat del Born
Ve de Barcelona is the new Barcelona City Council bookshop, also offering a selection of Barcelona design, gastronomy and signature fashion products. Located in the Sala Castellvi, within El Born - Museu d’Història de Barcelona, the bookshop specialises in publications on Barcelona and its people, past and present. Among its range of books, the publications of Barcelona Llibres stand out. The Barcelona City Council publishing house releases some fifty books a year on architecture, urban planning, memory, arts, literature, ecology and visual culture, whether in house, in collaboration with municipal museums and centres or in conjunction with private publishing companies. These are books that explain our city and remember our cultural legacy.
The new shop is housed in one of Barcelona’s most iconic heritage spaces, surrounded by intense cultural and commercial activity, strengthening the project’s aim to connect contemporary creativity with historical heritage. Book presentations and other activities open to the public will be held regularly in the bookshop itself and in other parts of El Born - Museu d’Història de Barcelona.
A space to promote Barcelona’s talent and creativity
Ve de Barcelona has four areas —books, design, gastronomy and signature fashion— the goal being to offer a broad vision on local cultural and creative production.
Its selection of design objects follows criteria on quality, functionality and proximity, making it a significant showcase for creative talent from our part of the world, a role model for contemporary Barcelona design.
The shop includes food made by local producers, the aim being to give visibility to Catalan farmers and highlight the quality, sustainability and diversity of local gastronomy.
The fashion section offers pieces by emerging designers linked to the programme Barcelona Fashion Forward, helping with the professionalisation of young brands through specialised training and support programmes.
LaCapell: cooperative linked to design and culture
The bookshop is managed by LaCapell, a consumer and services cooperative founded in 1976 and present in several cultural and professional facilities in the city, including the Museu d’Història de Barcelona, the Disseny Hub Barcelona and the Museu Marítim de Barcelona.
