Reaching one hundred and fifty years of continuous existence as an entity is not an easy task. However, the La Lira Cultural and Sports Society has succeeded in doing so, even though it seemed like everything was falling apart in the early years of the post-war period. Founded as a choral society at the end of the 19th century when Barcelona's Sant Andreu de Palomar neighbourhood was still an independent town and during a period in which choral societies were in full bloom in Catalonia, its cultural and recreational character have continued to be reshaped over the years while still offering a home to all sorts of associations and entities. The history of the Lira Cultural and Sports Society cannot be understood without associating it with its most immediate environment: the village of Sant Andreu de Palomar. This book offers a vivid historical and personal account of a society through the historical narrative thread of Sant Andreu de Palomar.
