This book explores the particularities and difficulties seen in the design and execution of a market that became one of the benchmarks for cast-iron architecture in Barcelona, largely thanks to the work of Josep Fontserè. It also sheds light on the setbacks this facility faced once it stopped being used as a market and the in-depth debates surrounding its future. A turning point in this period – when the archaeological settlement from the 18th-century city was found and restored – brings us to the present day.
