This is the first history of Catalan literature to have been planned and designed from the start as a collective work representing current-day academic knowledge on the subject. The first volume, which is edited by Lola Badia, focuses on the medieval period up to the 14th century. As with the work's other volumes on the medieval period, it brings together the academic contributions of the last forty years that had only been available in a vast and disparate collection of articles, publications and monographs.
