People of Barcelona

Part biography of the young artist, part Barcelona guide, Picasso Barcelona tells the story of the relationship between Picasso and the city that saw him evolve into a modern painter. Claustre Rafart takes the reader on a journey through Picasso’s early life, following the artists footsteps and showing us the places he visited through the artist’s eyes. On the way he pauses to reflect on the numerous friends Picasso had, his early works and the places he drew, painted and lived.

In this portrait of turn-of-the-century Barcelona, Rafart evokes unsettling images of a city that no longer exists, but which served as inspiration in the formative years of an artist who took the art world by storm.

Published in collaboration with the Picasso Museum and Editorial Tenov, Picasso Barcelona commemorates the 50th anniversary of the death of Pablo Picasso in 1973 and the 60th anniversary of the Picasso Museum in Barcelona.
