Barcelona hosts the 3rd International Meeting of the Network of Cervantine Cities

This year, 2025, Barcelona will become the epicentre of Cervantes culture with the celebration of the 3rd International Meeting of the Network of Cervantine Cities, which will take place on 18 and 19 March. The Catalan capital, founding member and current president of the network, will welcome representatives from various cities linked to the life and work of Miguel de Cervantes, in a meeting that will consolidate its commitment to the dissemination of the writer’s legacy.
The opening ceremony will be held on Tuesday 18 March at 5 p.m. in the Saló de Cent of Barcelona City Hall. It will be attended by the Mayor, Jaume Collboni, the President of the Network of Cervantine Cities, José Manuel Lucía Megías, the Director of the Cervantes Institute, Luis García Montero, and the professor and writer Carme Riera, who will give the lecture ‘Cervantes and Barcelona’.
The following day, on 19 March, the meeting will continue with a working session at the Museum of History of Barcelona (MUHBA), where representatives from cities such as Alcalá de Henares, Lisbon, Madrid, Valladolid and Recife will discuss new collaborative projects to promote knowledge of Cervantes’ work and its relationship with different localities.
In addition to the academic and institutional conferences, Barcelona will take advantage of the event to reinforce its Cervantine heritage with the incorporation of the sculpture Don Quixot, by Juli González, from the MNAC collection. This piece will be installed in the city’s Sculpture Park as a permanent tribute to the writer, thus reinforcing the link between the Catalan capital and his work and figure.
