As has become customary over the last four years, Barcelona City Council, the Generalitat of Catalonia's Department of Culture, the Ramon Llull Institute, the Association of Publishers in the Catalan Language and the Association of Catalan Publishers are sharing a stand at the Frankfurt International Book Fair, which is being held from 11 to 15 of October 2017.
The Frankfurt Book Fair is the most important book fair in the world and it is a great opportunity for getting publicity and raising awareness about Barcelona and Catalonia’s publishing potential.
The presence of Catalan institutions at the stand is signalled by the slogan “Catalonia, Land of Books / Barcelona, City of Literature”
Barcelona City Council is once again supporting the promotion of Barcelona and Catalonia’s publishing sector. It is also using the event to publicise initiatives that are taking place in Barcelona, such as the UNESCO City of Literature, an honour given to Barcelona towards the end of 2015.
The stand also exhibits some of the latest works published by Barcelona City Council and there is also a place where members of the public can have their photograph taken with the backdrop of La Plaça del Diamant, by Mercè Rodoreda, one of the most translated Catalan novels worldwide.
