Catalan Book Week closes its doors on 15 September. But just a few days go by before another important literature-tinged street event begins: the Fira del Llibre d’Ocasió, Antic i Modern (Used, Antique and Modern Book Fair). It is organised by the Gremi de Llibreters de Vell de Catalunya (Old Booksellers’ Guild of Catalonia), and this year it’s celebrating its 68th edition. As usual, the first few days of the fair dovetail with the Mercè town festival, since it will open on 20 September. However, the book stands on Passeig de Gràcia will remain there much longer than the festival: until 6 October.
The writer Care Santos will read the proclamation of this 68th fair on 20 September at 11 am. Another local name is Mar Arza, the artist who designed the poster advertising the event. Yet without a doubt, the fair’s spotlight will be on books and booksellers. At least 30 bookshops are expected, where you’ll be able to find books for all tastes and ages and probably editions that are centuries old, literature classics in different languages and out-of-print books which would be hard to find elsewhere.
