Once again, and this is the 66th edition, the Antique and Modern Second-Hand Book Fair is being held on both sides of Passeig de Gràcia, inducing us to read something.
If you like buying books, September is probably the best month of the year in Barcelona. You might think that it would be April, because of Sant Jordi, or that Barcelona is a great city, full of good bookshops with a decent offer all year round. However, September has always been the month for second-hand books, thanks to the fair located on the lower part of Passeig de Gràcia, on both sides of the street, during the La Mercè Festival.
It’s like a Sant Antoni Market that’s open every day for two weeks, where the more active booksellers, who work with antique volumes or relatively new second-hand books, sell their wares at very reasonable prices. It’s a great opportunity to find that gem that you’ve been looking for all this time, or for just trying your luck.
The fair is holding its 66th edition this year, organised, as always, by the Catalan Second-Hand Booksellers Association, and there will be stalls on Passeig de Gràcia belonging to bookshops from Barcelona, all over Catalonia and the rest of Spain.
The fair will be open until 8 October. It’s time to go for a stroll, stop for a few minutes at an interesting stall, look around, ask questions, have a chat and then go home with a good selection of out-of-print books at unbeatable prices.
