The book Barcelona, capital d’un nou estat can now be consulted in Catalan, English and Spanish. This publication includes a collection of opinions and proposals that invite reflection on what becoming the capital of a new State may represent for Barcelona.
Some 150 experts are giving pause for thought on potential challenges and opportunities in Barcelona should the city become the capital of a Catalan State. Some of the benefits pointed out by the experts include a growth in infrastructures, such as the port and the airport, and greater share in foreign investment. As a capital, the city would have to take on board new responsibilities towards Catalonia.
The idea of drafting this White Paper was announced by Mayor Xavier Trias this 8 September, during an institutional event on Catalan National Day, and its Catalan version presented at the City Hall’s Saló de Cent this November.
