Third edition of the Little Market of Markets on 16 and 17 May
The third edition of the Little Market of Markets is on 16 and 17 May and is being held this year at the Mercat de Provençals (C/ Menorca, between the streets of Treball and Agricultura). Held on Friday and Saturday from 11 am to 10 pm, the fair offers a series of workshops, show cooking sessions, entertainment, music and activities for all the family.
Promoted by the Barcelona Institute of Municipal Markets (IMMB) with the support of the Barcelona Federation of Municipal Markets (FEMM), the goal of this initiative is to transfer the essence of the Market of Markets fair to different neighbourhoods, with the event organised in close collaboration with markets and their surroundings. The goal of the fair is to add vitality to the local territory and foster market values such as the consumption of quality local produce and the promotion of healthy and sustainable food and local gastronomy.
This year’s event is included in the programme for ‘Catalonia World Gastronomy Region 2025’, highlighting the involvement of markets with the goal of positioning Catalonia as a global gastronomy leader. Because of this, municipal facilities will be hosting initiatives such as tastings, show cooking sessions, gastronomy cycles such as ‘Mercats de Forquilla’ and ‘Tasta’M’, and the Market of Markets and Little Market of Markets come within the context of this event.
Quality produce at the centre
Quality produce will be the undisputed star of the fair, thanks to traders from the Mercat de Provençals, taking to the street to offer people the chance of tasting their products. Those taking part represent different specialities at the market, such as meat (Soler Capella and Polleria R. Ascaso) and fruit and veg (Fruits Secs VG).
Visitors will be able to purchase tapas directly from stalls and enjoy the gastronomy options on offer. Soler Capella will be offering two tapas: wheat tortilla stuffed with roast horsemeat and succulent horsemeat with parmentier potatoes and Iberian ham. For their part, Fruits Secs VG and Polleria R. Ascaso will be offering falafel with humus, pico de gallo sauce and yoghurt, and country chicken with teriyaki sauce, dried onion, cherry tomato and basmati rice.
The fair also features city restaurants such as Nectari – with a poularde croquette with red paprika emulsion and a country sausage with caramelised onion and crunchy pork belly – and the Creperie de Marione – with chocolate crepes, dulce de leche, a choice of fruit and cream.
To strengthen the connection between the fair and the market, a barbecue area will be set up, where those attending can taste the fresh produce purchased directly from the stalls, which stallholders will have ready and labelled for this purpose. This initiative promotes interaction with market traders and invites participants to get into the whole experience: from purchasing produce to tasting it in a relaxed and festive atmosphere To go with these tastings, the various bars will be offering beers, soft drinks, vermouth and other drinks.
