199 proximity economy projects to strengthen local commerce and create quality jobs

The ninth edition of the programme ‘Impulsem el que fas’ approves 199 projects in the proximity economy, with 2.25 million euros to strengthen local commerce, drive strategic sectors and generate quality jobs.

Barcelona City Council, through Barcelona Activa, has approved 199 projects for the ninth edition of the “Impulsem el que fas” subsidies. There were 564 applications in the call, which has a budget of 2.25 million euros, with subsidies of between 8,000 and 30,000 euros depending on the category.

The 2025 call has eight categories: economic activity in empty ground-floor premises and market stalls; economic activity in municipally owned ground-floor premises; economic diversification and protection of local commerce and services in high influx areas (EGA); social economy and other impact economy initiatives; promotion of quality employment in the local area.; social and technological innovation and the care for ageing economy; sustainable and responsible consumption, and Dones Lidera.

This edition adds categories 1B, 1C, 4 and 6, geared towards priority challenges and driving strategic sectors. In all, these categories account for 28.6% of the applications approved.

Boost for commerce

In terms of the expected impact, the programme will help open 38 new proximity economy businesses (9 in municipally owned premises and 3 in EGA zones) and also support the growth of existing activities. In the employment category, actions will be rolled out with 29 organisations to improve the employability of migrants, the under 30s, the long-term unemployed over 50 and women, in the priority districts of Nou Barris, Sant Andreu, Sant Martí, Ciutat Vella, Sants-Montjuïc and Horta-Guinardó.
