Restaurant professionals from Barcelona visit extensive livestock farms
After the session for butchers in Montseny on 17 November, the Comerç Verd programme is organising another visit to the Vallès on 1 December, this time for restaurateurs to get a close-up look at extensive farming.
As part of the Comerç Verd programme, Barcelona City Council is backing a project to promote meat from extensive livestock farming and promote its sale with low food miles. After the first session in Montseny on 17 November, aimed at butchers, the project continues with a session intended for the restaurant sector.
The session in Montseny offered the chance to visit extensive sheep and cattle farms, meet local producers and open up spaces for farmers and butchery professionals to engage. Initiatives such as the Unaun brand were presented, along with agro-ecological logistics projects that facilitate the connection between livestock farming and local commerce.
The second session is being held on 1 December and is aimed at restaurant owners, with Granollers as the meeting point. The session starts with a hearty breakfast with local products as part of the Queixalada, followed by a presentation of projects and initiatives linked to extensive farming and agro-ecological distribution.
The programme continues with a space for producers and establishments to engage, free time to visit the fair and a lunch with local produce. The afternoon brings visits to two farms: a sheep and goat farm (Alf de Bigues, at Can Canals) and an extensive cattle farm (La Soleia, in Gallifa).
Participation is free and places are limited. The session isaimed at restaurant professionals interested in using extensive livestock farming products in their establishments. The project strengthens the municipal backing for a more sustainable food system and stronger links between local production, commerce and restaurants.
