Best Commercial Business Initiative of the Year award

Winning establishment: Fàbrica Moritz

For the remodelling that the company carried out on its old Ronda de Sant Antoni factory, to turn it into a large space where leisure, food and culture meet. The Moritz space has undergone a natural integration with the “Sant Antoni Shopping Centre” and is now a key regeneration element in this commercial environment.

Jury's Diploma: CULTRUTA.COM

Cultruta.com, a company dedicated to promoting culture routes on the internet. With over four years of experience behind it, it has reinvented itself by opening new premises right on the street, on C/ Estruc, so it can enjoy direct and local contacts with its customers and create an information and knowledge space.

Commercial establishment award

Winning establishment: Xarcuteries Bosch

This is the fifth generation of a family of pork butchers who made customer care and adaptation to change a home philosophy. The jury noted in particular its shop on C/ Mallorca in the middle of the Clot hub, which they themselves call the “youngest member of a family over a hundred years old”.

Jury's Diploma: Koetania Barcelona

The establishment represents the evolution of a jewellery shop to a creators exhibition space and workshop open to the public, which invites customers to take part in creating their own jewellery.

Special mention: Pastisseria Bareche l'Artesà

The jury awarded a special mention to retailers embarking on innovative initiatives to deal with problems arising from long-term public works. Such was the case with the Pastisseria Bareche, located on C/ Sant Antoni Maria Claret/Meridiana, at the junction between work on the La Sagrera interchange and on Metro lines 9 and 10.

Best Group Initiative for Boosting Commerce in the City award

Award: Associació d'Amics del Passeig de Gràcia. For the initiative: The Shopping Night Barcelona

Shopping night in Barcelona, in which establishments along Passeig de Gràcia and its environs stay open until midnight, has established itself as an effective way to boost sales before Christmas. The initiative, which is usually held in top-notch commercial cities such as New York, Tokyo, London, Paris and Milan, received business support from over 90 establishments during the 2011 edition.

Barcelona, the Best Markets in the World Award

Award: Associació de Comerciants del Mercat del Carmel

For the promotional 10% discount shopping campaign that applied to all the market's shops. The aim behind this initiative, whose proceeds benefited some 25,000 families, was to promote customer loyalty and win over new customers within the backdrop of the economic crisis.

Special mention: Peixos Ripoll Estera, del Mercat de la Boqueria

This is a family business of fishmongers, now in its fifth generation, which had continued to adapt to the new circumstances of the times. A notable initiative is the “peix al cove”, a website that offers the same products online that can be found in person at the shop. This promotes fresh-product shopping for people who lack the time to visit the market.

Prize for contributing towards promoting and raising the profile of the city's commerce

Award: Silvestre Sánchez Sierra

Silvestre Sánchez exemplifies an enterprising and integrating Barcelona. Having come to Barcelona at the end of the 1960s, he combines several trades and professions, acting as a veritable ambassador for the ham produced from his native Salamanca. His Silvestre Sánchez companies provide jobs for over 450 workers and are an example of his tenacity and flexibility in adapting to current circumstances.

Special mention: Posthumous Award, Sr. Farga

Jesús Farga open his first shop in Barcelona in 1957, on C/ Gran de Gràcia. He gradually expanded his network of shops all around Barcelona, which started off as cake shops and led to an own-brand of ice-cream: Farggi, which is famous worldwide. In 2008 the company bought the Frigo factory, owned up to then by a multinational, providing continuity to close to 100 workers, who joined the other 650 workers at Farggi shops.

  • Accessibility
