2024 Barcelona Restaurant Prize
Barcelona is a city with a powerful, creative, innovative, sustainable and diverse culinary offer. Over the years, restaurants in the city’s districts and neighbourhoods have become a key part of the city’s fabric, and, at the same time, a key player in promoting the potential of Barcelona’s culinary culture.
Barcelona City Council’s Directorate for Commerce, Restaurants and Consumer Services is holding the fifth edition of the Barcelona Restaurant Prize to shine a spotlight on the city restaurants that stood out in 2023 due to their links to their respective neighbourhoods and values such as integration, quality of life, sustainability, innovation and adaptability to changing times.
The aim of the Barcelona Restaurant Prize is to recognise and promote initiatives carried out by neighbourhood restaurants, in their role as local city establishments. It seeks to highlight and help to promote the high-quality, sustainable culinary offer found in Barcelona.

The Barcelona Restaurant Prize aims to:
- Reinforce and showcase high-quality restaurants in the various parts of the city.
- Highlight and showcase local initiatives.
- Foster the consumption of healthy, locally sourced ingredients.
- Foster integration of the general public and high-quality establishments in the area.
- Encourage good sustainable practices applied to restaurants as a model for quality.
- Promote restaurant options linked to the city’s municipal markets.

Any natural or legal person who is the owner of one or more restaurants located in the city of Barcelona may participate.
All nominations made by the individuals mentioned in the previous paragraph within the deadline will be considered for the Prizes, provided the nominated individuals have run their restaurant business during 2023 and continue to do so throughout the process.
Additionally, they must:
- Be up to date with tax obligations to the Spanish tax agency, the municipal treasury, and obligations to Social Security. Possess documentation demonstrating the business activity with the corresponding authorisation (license or notification) from at least 2023 and throughout the entire Prize awarding process.

Those wishing to take part must fill in this form for the call in full. This document includes a declaration of compliance confirming that the applicants meet the requirements to participate in this call.

Award categories
Culinary quality prize
This prize recognises the establishment’s large-scale culinary approach, as judged by neighbourhood customers and institutions. Special attention is paid to the use of high-quality, locally sourced produce as well as having specialised in a particular area in order to offer a unique culinary concept in the city.
Sustainability prize
This prize recognises the restaurants’ best practices linked to the principles of sustainability and the circular economy, honouring restaurants with values, dedication, a commitment to the neighbourhood and sustainable recruitment and ingredient sourcing policies.
Prize for neighbourhood integration
This prize recognises how the restaurant identifies with the particular features of the neighbourhood, placing an emphasis on the promotion of social life and wealth creation in the area and the establishment’s status among local residents as a leading social hub.
Honorary mention
The panel can decide to award an honorary mention to restaurants and/or people linked to restaurants for their exceptional contribution to forging a restaurant sector that has helped to shape the distinctive cultural identity of the city’s restaurant model.
Front of house service prize
This category recognises staff organisation and the coordination between the kitchen and the front of house, from the management and supervision of the table service to attentive customer service that guarantees a unique and satisfactory experience.
Barcelona markets restaurant prize
This prize seeks to recognise the quality of the offer, combining tradition and innovation, of the bars and restaurants linked to the city’s 43 municipal markets. It particularly focuses on the culinary offer linked to fresh and seasonal produce from the market; and how the service is part of the market’s friendly, welcoming atmosphere.
Deadline for submission of applications
The deadline to apply is from July 18 to September 10.
