The Saló de Cent hosted the ceremony for International Migrants Day, which included the 17th Barcelona Municipal Immigration Council Award (CMIB), this year devoted to health and emotional well-being from an intercultural perspective.
The jury recognised the Associació Retorna for its project “No estic bé”, an intercultural psychotherapy group for migrant youngsters and teenagers, racialised people and the children of migrants. The initiative works from the perspective of ecopsychology, psycho-corporal methodologies and community health, with a participatory group format that gets young people involved in the design, execution and evaluation of the programme. The award for the association comes with 7,000 euros to help support the project.
The CMIB emphasised that the awards seek to recognise projects that promote inclusion, coexistence and active participation in the city ‘s cultural diversity, and which contribute to a fairer and more cohesive Barcelona.
The jury also gave special recognition to two other finalists: on project by the Centre d’Estudis Africans i Interculturals focusing on young people of Filipino origin, and one by the Associació Joves Units del Poble-sec, also noting networking and community work in the neighbourhood.
There was also a special mention for two member organisations, Joves Units del Poble-sec and Associació Kudwa, for their active participation in workgroups, their contribution to interaction and the good internal atmosphere. The special mention carries a monetary award of 2,000 euros.
Established by the UN in the year 2000, International Migrants Day stands up for the protection of all migrants’ human rights. As an advisory and participatory body for Barcelona City Council, the CMIB brings together organisations working for immigrants and reception, along with other social stakeholders, the goal being to move towards full citizenship for migrants.
