The Montserrat Roig Awards aim to stimulate, promote and encourage better information and better coverage of social issues in the media. The awards recognise the best work presented in each type of media, in accordance with the categories and criteria established in the terms and conditions.

Projects must focus on Barcelona, as regards the subject matter, target audience or impact framework, and they must be submitted in Catalan or Spanish.

The Montserrat Roig Awards for Journalism and Social Communication in Barcelona consist of seven awards and four categories:

1. A first and a second prize in the social journalism category.
2. A first and a second prize in the social communication category.
3. Two prizes in the category for the promotion of journalistic research in the sphere of social rights and social action in Barcelona.
4. One special jury prize.

Only public or private natural or legal persons with Spanish nationality or residents in Spain can enter.

Submissions may be made individually or collectively, with the express acknowledgement of authors and media organisations connected to the proposals.

Authors or media organisations can opt for more than one award category but they may only receive an award in one category.

The jury will award a first prize of €7,000 and a second prize of €3,000 for the social journalism and social communication categories, as well as two €10,000 prizes for the promotion of journalistic research, representing a total of €20,000 in this category. It shall also give special recognition to a project or professional career marked by sensitivity, rigour and commitment to journalism and social communication. This award has a prize of €5,000. The awards are subject to the deductions and taxes established in the tax regulations.
