Safety. A fire engine which was taken out of service has been adapted to act as a classroom on wheels.

The Barcelona Fire Service has a new teaching tool to help promote fire prevention: the ‘Pre-venim’, a B-123 fire engine which reached the end of its active service life and has now been turned into a classroom on wheels.

This initiative represents another step forward by the Barcelona Fire Service in promoting and raising awareness on self-protection among the general public, particularly children. The initiative is included in the school activity programme by the Barcelona Education Consortium.

Through practical and participatory methodology, users can see how fire and smoke behave in household fires. The goal is to explain erroneous action which can involuntarily cause a fire and how to act if we find ourselves in a situation of risk.

The sessions are conducted by a group of instructors and monitors who have been offering educational and promotional activities on prevention for more than twenty years at the Espai Bombers and in the prevention classroom in the Vall d’Hebron. The Pre-venim vehicle means this training can now be given around city schools.
