Creative Europe Programme (Creative Europe) 2021-2027
Support for the Cultural and Audiovisual Sectors in Europe
Creative Europe is the European Commission's programme to support the cultural and audiovisual sectors. With a budget of €2.44 billion for the period 2021-2027, the main objectives of Creative Europe are:
To safeguard, develop, and promote Europe's cultural and linguistic diversity and heritage.
To increase the competitiveness and economic potential of the cultural and creative sectors, particularly the audiovisual sector.
The programme is divided into three chapters: Culture, Cross-Sectoral, and Media.
Culture
The Culture chapter supports areas such as architecture, cultural heritage, design, literature and publishing, music, and performing arts. It also fosters cooperation and exchanges between cultural organisations and artists both within and outside Europe.
Creative Europe promotes:
- Artistic creation and innovation.
- The promotion and distribution of European content.
- Opportunities for artists to work and perform internationally.
- The digital and environmental transition of cultural and creative sectors.
Cross-Sectoral
The Cross-Sectoral chapter strengthens collaboration between different cultural and creative sectors to address shared challenges and find innovative solutions. Its main priorities are:
- Promoting transnational cooperation in cultural policies and the transferability of results.
- Encouraging innovative approaches in the creation, access, distribution, and promotion of cultural and creative content, as well as its connection with other sectors.
- Adapting media to structural and technological changes.
- Supporting the establishment and activities of Creative Europe Desks.
Through the Creative Innovation Labs, Creative Europe fosters innovative digital solutions for cultural and creative sectors, encouraging the creation of market-oriented tools, models, and methods.
Media
The MEDIA chapter supports the European audiovisual industry in developing, distributing, and promoting European works in the current digital environment. It also fosters:
- Cooperation across the entire value chain of the audiovisual industry at a European level to expand the reach of European companies and content globally.
- Emerging talent and knowledge exchange.
- Innovative solutions to adapt to market demands and trends.
- Public engagement across all ages, especially new generations.
With a new structure starting in 2021, MEDIA organises its priorities into four clusters to offer more flexibility and foster collaboration among different actors in the audiovisual industry.
